Lapping and Polishing, Lapidary and Optical
The use of an abrasive media suspended in solution and utilised in a lapping machine provides for an unrivalled smooth finish on substrates. Lapping and polishing can also use bonded / coated abrasives papaers and medias, invariably the particle sizes of the abrasives both in slurry and adhered form are in the micro grit ranges from 75 micron down to individual grains in the 3 micron diameter range.
For use in jewellery manufacture to polish the product and in optical and lense manufacture for glasses through to precision reflective mirrors for outer orbit space telescopes, they all use fine mirco abrasives, typically Aluminas and Silicon Carbides, although Cerium Oxides, Zirconias and high end speciality micro grits can be utilised.
