Deflashing
De-flashing – similar in operation to cryogenic de-flashing whereby media is propelled at a component en-ma
sse to remove burrs and flashes from moulding and die-casting applications. This process tends to operate at ambient temperatures and, as such, it can utilise either an air-propelled (compressed air) blast system or a wheel driven blast machine. In both instances, the choice of media is imperative since impact damage to the moulding or component can occur if the media is too aggressive.
A balance thus has to be maintained with sufficient impact density made by the media whilst not marking the component. This can be achieved by using Mac’Ants Nyflash polymer compound, from plastic mouldings in UF and MF as well as a host of thermoplastic polymer mouldings. Additionally for aluminium die-casting, Polyflash Ambient can be utilised as can a wide choice of soft metal abrasive pellets, such as aluminium and brass.
