Burn Off Ovens
Similar in concept to acid and caustic dipping in that the entire component is processed in one application, the use of a burn off or pyrolysis oven means an entire car or components can be heated. This causes the coating or paint to delaminate or ‘carbonise’ and crumble from the surface of the component or car shell. Consequential effects to consider are that components can be damaged by heat distortion while car bodies and panels often contain a range of other metals for balance and corrosion resistance. In many instances, these other metals cannot be replaced and are usually within the frame of the body shell.
The process of plastic media stripping is thus better suited to car and vehicle body shell paint and coating removal as only the visible surface is de-painted. The original metal coatings and balancing metals can remain present and undamaged.
